New Facebook Application for Android phones

There’s a lot of talk about the new Android phone application v1.6 which has been released by Facebook. This application allows users to view Facebook pages, upload videos and see updates in the news feed. The bad news is that this application is still behind iphone, which allow users to use many more features including Facebook checkin deals.

Moreover, users cannot search pages on Facebook and cannot tag photos. Many of these things can be easily done with Android’s mobile browser, m.facebook.com. Hence, the application is a little less attractive compared to the compeitition.

Another problem Facebook faces is third-party developers selling apps that fill these gaps. A quick look at the Android Marketplace shows an unofficial Facebook checkin app and FriendCaster for Facebook which boasts it “does what the official Facebook app should!”

Facebook is allowing these third-party developers to control their users till the time they develop something better. Facebook has been quite rapidly developing its base by announcing the launch of the official ipad application. Facebook also announced the discovery of its iphone photo sharing application.
